DREAMS + TEAMS

Mini Festival- 2nd Dec, 2009

On the 2nd of December, the second festival was organised by the Young leaders of KVNo.2.We were honoured to have the Assistant commissioner , Mumbai Region ,Mr. P R L Gupta as our chief guest, who was encouraging and also sportive enough, for he also tried his hands at the games. We also had the Principal of Sankalp and the Principal of KV No.3 along with us to grace the occasion. Students from neighbouring schools such as KV1, KV3, BMC Colaba, Kherwadi Bandra & Sankalp (a school for the especially abled) also participated in the festival. Along with them, parents of students of KV2 and teachers/ Local tutors from other schools were also welcomed and warmly treated with some fun & entertainment. The festival had games for children, a dancing session, cultural programmes, games for teachers/escorts and parents.
.
The festival started with the lighting of the lamp followed by cultural items, formal introduction of D+T, presenting souvenir to the D+T club members. Succeeding this came up the main agenda of the day to develop the basic skills of the games. Games that suited children of all abilities and capabilities such as- Bucket ball, Bowling, Stumping etc were held. Simultaneously, along with the activities for children, there was Throw Ball for parents and Musical chair for parents & teachers. The fest also had a "Painting Corner" where the students displayed their artwork on the topic "Impact of Climate Change on Mumbai", which KV2 is taking up as a project under D+T. And finally, prize distribution by the Chief Guest who also blessed the Young Leaders and prize winners.

The games were well monitored/conducted by the Young leaders.YLs were volunteering, helping people & literally holding their hands to make this a success. The D+T members proved their mettle and spirit by being tirelessly workaholic and spending all it took to make 'their' event a success. YLs were also involved in photography, arranging refreshments, prize selection, preparing budget & every little minute detail happening around.

The specialty of the festival was such that everything from managing finances, efforts to get the sponsorship, invitations, controlling finance, making banners, seating arrangements etc. to even putting back things in place after the mega event and distributing refreshments, were done by Young Leaders. Leadership, Volunteering, management and most importantly even 'inclusion' an aspect that D+T stressed on, was taken care of. For, we had children who came from SANKALP, who not just participated and enjoyed the games but also won prizes.

A unique aspect of the fest was that it even had media coverage. The Media group of YLs had contacted TOI , who came to capture the memorable moments. Fortunately, it was published on the very next day 3rd Dec in the papers.
